Bread-Bakers Anonymous
Yesterday, I went to work at the winery and baked what you see above, as well as a few more things you don’t see in that photo that the fabulous Ms. Christina took with her phone.
And then I went home. And baked more bread, amongst other things.
First came the mankoush—they’re one of Joe’s favorite things that I make, and they work quite nicely as buns for egg salad sandwiches. And la! We’ve got egg salad in the fridge! Hrrm.
Then came the pitas, because I’ve been meaning to make them for days…one of the other things we always have around is fresh hummus. Joe swears he could live on it, and I always have ingredients on hand for fresh hummus and risotto—those are my two emergency pantry go-to dishes.
The whole-wheat English muffins were proofing as I typed this, because we’re currently out of breakfast bread entirely. I may or may not take a photo of them after they’ve been cooked, (yes, I did say ‘cooked’—you griddle them on your stovetop with a bit of cornmeal, if you’ve never made them before) depending entirely upon whether or not I feel like it.
So, to recap, here’s what I made today:
At work:
- 11 baguettes
- 1 sesame seed vienna loaf
- 1 Italian vienna loaf (yeah, I know XD)
- 2 baguette rings
- 2 garlic parmesan sourdough boules
- 2 multigrain roasted red pepper asiago boules
- 38 loaves Fred’s Red Cheddar (6 for today; 32 for which dough has been made + shaped to be baked off as needed during the course of the week)
- 12 loaves herbed asiago
- 6 loaves cheddar scallion
At home:
- 8 mankoush buns
- 8 pitas
- 12 whole-wheat English muffins
In conclusion: it is not a sickness, I can quit anytime I like! ![]()
